Afzalur Rahman Sinha

Mr. Afzalur Rahman Sinha is the youngest son of Late Hamidur Rahman Sinha – the founder of The ACME Laboratories Limited, Chairman of ACME from 2014 to 2018, one of the legendary sports organizers of the country and a valiant freedom fighter.

When Mr. Afzalur Rahman Sinha enrolled in Soil Science Department of the University of Dhaka to earn his Honors degree, the Liberation War started. The young patriot immediately left his studies without any hesitation, joined the “Mukti Bahini” and fought in the Liberation War for the motherland.

Just after the liberation of Bangladesh, Mr. Afzalur Rahman Sinha regained his studies and completed his Honors graduation from Dhaka University. Afterward, he went to the USA in 1973 to attain his Master’s in Business Administration (MBA).

To fulfill the dream of his father Mr. Hamidur Rahman Sinha, he returned to Bangladesh in 1983 to join the family business – The ACME Laboratories Limited. He was in charge of all the business divisions of the company all along and he became the Chairman of the company in 2014. As one of the capable successors, Mr. Afzalur Rahman Sinha along with his brothers took the company to new heights of success consolidating its position among the top 10 companies of Bangladesh 30 years back.

In course of time, Mr. Afzalur Rahman Sinha expanded his interest in diversified businesses and became the Managing Director of The ACME Agrovet & Beverages Ltd., Sinha Printers Ltd. and Sinha Wool Wears Limited. He was also the Director of Sinha Fabrics Ltd. and Sinha Knit Industries Ltd.

Mr. Afzalur Rahman Sinha always had a passion for sports and a vision to put Bangladesh on the world map as a sport-loving nation. Naturally, he got involved in many sports organizations leading them in different capacities and relentlessly strived to enable them to achieve greatness in sports.

With a view to enhance the quality of sports in Bangladesh, Mr. Afzalur Rahman Sinha served as Director-Finance of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) for 15 years and Chairman of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) for 4 years. He was a Director of Abahani Limited for a significant tenure and the Chairman of the Hockey Division of Abahani Krira Chakra for about 25 years. He was also the President of Surjo Torun Club and Azad Boys Club at different times.

The kind, amiable and social nature of Mr. Afzalur Rahman Sinha made him an integral part of the Dhaka Club where he was a member for more than three decades. For more than 20 years, he was actively involved in the activities of the club in different capacities such as Convener/Advisor and Sponsor of various event sub-committees. He was the President of the Club from 2017 to 2018.

Mr. Afzalur Rahman Sinha, an all-through family man, was a very humble, well-mannered and soft-spoken person with a great sense of time. It was always amazing to see how immensely he enjoyed everything he was doing with a smile on his face, despite the hard work. Everybody who knows him will always lovingly remember him as “Kaiser Bhai with a smile”- a gem of a personality who silently but actively participated in everything while motivating everyone around him.

Most of all, he lived his whole life inspiring us all to live a great life!
